Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on February 1st, 1574 by Emperor Maximilian II of Austria.

The arms are canting, showing a female deer ('Hindin') on a mountain ('Berg'). The arms were based on the arms of the Lords of Hindberg, who already in the 13th century used a red deer on a golden field. The division of the shield in gold and black was made to distinguish the arms of the town from the family arms.
