MEDICAL SOCIETY OF NOVA SCOTIA
Official blazon
Arms: Murrey a pallet Or entwined about by a serpent, on a chief Argent a saltire Azure
Motto: HEALTH AND HUMANITY
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on April 27, 1954 (Scotland) and registered in Canada on March 27, 2021.
The dark red evokes the colour of blood. The snake-entwined rod alludes to the rod of Aesculapius, the Greco-Roman god of medicine. The blue saltire on white is inspired by the arms and flag of Nova Scotia, where the Society is located.
The motto is a reminder of the doctor’s purpose.
