VERGATO

Region : Emilia-Romagna
Province : Bologna

Stemma di Vergato/Arms (crest) of Vergato
Official blazon
Italian blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The boar, originally, was a pig; this was the symbol of the Bolognese Mountain Captaincy, which was located in the castle of Casio in the municipality, which is recognized on top of the hill behind the animal.

The arms thus symbolise the fact that Vergato in the fifteenth century became the seat of the Captaincy.

The wreath of wheat (in Latin "virgatus" means: equipped with small rods) is a canting symbol.
