The arms were officially granted on December 30, 1954.

The arms are divided by a wavy division line symbolising the Klarälven river, which divides the municipality in an industrial and an agricultural part. This is symbolised in the upper half with the logo of the Mölnbacka-Trysils company, a large sulphate and paper company in the municipality. The agricultural part is symbolised by the laurelbranch, which also refers to the von Lagerlöf family (lager=laurel), who had their estate in the area in the 17th century. The later descendant Selma Lagerlöf won the Nobel Prize in literature in 1909.

Origin/meaning

Literature: Nevéus and de Waern, 1992
