The arms are impaled with the arms of the Archdiocese.
The surname'Carter' is represented by, two cartwheels. Beneath these is an open book to betoken Samuel, the prophet of the Old Testament, and refers to his first name. The book is inscribed with the badge of the Society of Jesus, the religious Order of the Archbishop. The pineapple beneath the book, from the arms of Jamaica, heralds the island where the Archbishop served.
The motto is taken from the priestly payer for unity of Christ at the Last Supper.
