PARIS-18
Borough (Arrondissement) of : Paris
French | De gueules au cep de vigne d'or; mantelé croiseté d'or chargé de deux moulins à vent de sable: au chef d'azur chargé de la lettre onciale M d'argent accostée de deux fleurs de lis d'or. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The above arms were designed by Robert Louis in the 1960s. They have, as far as I know, never been used.
In 2016 the local residents of Montmartre (=Paris 18) came up with a different design:
Both designs show a vine for the former viticulture as well as for the many pubs and cafes in the area. The mill refers to the Moulin Rouge club, as do the two dancers in the Montmartre design.
The chief in the Louis design shows the Royal connections and a letter M for Montmartre. In the Montmartre design the open hand symbolises the hospitality and benevolence of the inhabitants. The golden sun refer to the three churches of Montmartre (Sacré Coeur, Saint Pierre, and Saint Jean).
The motto means : Village remains worthy of so many crowns
