Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on April 5, 1991.
The arms of this local authority, which is situated near Aliwal North, have as the principal charge a Xhosa shield to represent the tribal origin of the majority of its inhabitants. This is surmounted by the head of a buffalo, an animal which occupies an important place in Xhosa culture.
