CARANSEBEȘ

District/county (județ): Caraș-Severin

Stema Caransebeș

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on December 18, 2002.

The upper half refer to the 13th century, a period in which Caransebeș is documented and in which the fortified city experienced a strong development. The city is known as a bastion for defending Christianity against pagan invasion, and the two stars signify freedom, abundance, eternity, but also the renewal of Caransebeș.

Saint George is spiritual patron of the Diocese of Caransebeș and represents the victory of Good against Evil.

The Roman soldier from the last quarter is the embodiment of Virtus, the Roman god of courage, and refers to the traditional virtues: honesty, courage, sincerity, modesty, moral qualities typical of the inhabitants of this town.
