The arms are identical to the arms of the medieval Counts of Ferrette, as well as the former County Ferrette from 1324-1793. Ferrette was mentioned as a city in the 13<sup>th</sup> century, but the oldest seal dates from 1555. The seal already showed the use of the arms of the county by the city.
