GROOTE SCHUUR PRIMARY SCHOOL
Country: South Africa
Campus/location : Rondebosch, Cape Town, Western Cape
Afrikaans | blazon wanted |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms are not officially granted.
The first quarter shows the main front gable of the house Groote Schuur, which was the home of Cecil John Rhodes, prime minister of the Cape Colony, and was bequeathed to South Africa as a home for its prime ministers until the abolition of the office of prime minister in terms of the 1984 Constitution. It is now a museum.
The second quarter shows Mostert’s Mill, a survival from the time of the Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie, which stands in Mowbray, close to the main campus of the University of Cape Town.
The shield base shows a stylised tree with the sun rising behind it.
The motto is: Concordia ad Maiora.
