LUC CYR
Born: November 21, 1953
Deceased:
Bishop of Valleyfield, 2001-2011
Archbishop of Sherbrooke, 2011-present
Bishop of Valleyfield |
Archbishop of Sherbrooke |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The three sides of the triangle created by the diagonal division of the shield evokes the Holy Trinity. The three intertwined rings of gold recall the unity of the three Persons of the Holy Trinity and the harmony which must exist between the bishop, the clergy and the faithful of a diocese. One of them takes the place of the episcopal ring which symbolizes the pastoral power and fullness of the sacrament of the Order.
The gold symbolizes the inestimable value of the total gift of the person of the bishop to the faithful of his diocese. The star indicates that the point at the top of the star is turned perpendicularly towards the sky, towards the beyond. This expression remembers eternal salvation. The star also symbolizes the Virgin Mary, the Mother of the Savior. It also recalls that the bishop is born on November 21, the day of the Marian feast of the Presentation of Mary at the Temple of Jerusalem.
