REMI JOSEPH DE ROO
Born: February 24, 1924
Deceased:
Bishop of Victoria in Canada, 1962-1999
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The chevron and falcon are part of the early coat of arms of the De Roo family, originating in the Flanders, Belgium. The chevron and tower emblems were also carried on the De Pape shield, the maternal side of the Bishop's family.
A single tower adorned the coat of arms of Pope John XXIII, who appointed Mgr de Roo as Bishop of Victoria. The original field of blue was changed to red to recall the blood which true believers are prepared to shed, if need be, as a witness to love.
The motto AEDIFICATIO IN CARITATE (To build in love) is taken from Ephesians 4:16.
