FAOUG

Canton: Vaud

Armoiries de Faoug

Official blazon

Parti d'argent au paon rouant au naturel sur un mont de sinople, et de gueules au hêtre arraché de sinople.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted in 1913.

The arms appear already on a local seal of 1713, without indication of the colours. The arms are most likely (double) canting: the German name for this village is Pfauen, meaning peacock; whereas the beech refer to the French name, which some etymologists derive from the Latin fagus (beech).
