The chevron and the colours are taken from the arms of Nils Abjörnsson, who received the area in loan in 1327 and started its economic development. The leaf is taken from the arms of Nicolaus Olai Bothniensis, a professor at Uppsala university and Archbishop of Uppslaa in te late 16th century, who was born in the area.
