Origin/meaning
The borough was never officially granted arms, but used the arms above.
The arms date to the creation of the parliamentary borough in 1461 and pay homage to Richard, Duke of York. It displays the white lion of the Earls of the Marches and three white roses of the House of York.
The seal and arms as shown in the 19th century:
The arms are now used by the town council.
