Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on November 28, 1947.
The name Huddinge is believed to originate from "uddingarna", the first inhabitants of Huddinge who lived in Vårby on a headland, an "udde", on the shores of Lake Mälaren during the times of the Vikings. Their community was threatened by many dangers and enemies often came in boats. They lit huge fires on hilltops - beacons - as a signal warning others of the approach of enemies. A whole sequence of beacons could be seen from Vårby far into the Lake Mälaren area. The beacon lives on as the symbol for Huddinge on the municipal arms.
