ESSERTES

Canton: Vaud

Armoiries de Essertes

Official blazon

De gueules au tronc arraché et écoté d'or, sommé d'un coucou au naturel.

Origin/meaning

The arms were designed and adopted in 1921 as no historical arms existed.

The arms show a cuckoo, based on the nickname of the villagers (I have no meaning of the origin of this nickname), on a stick. The latter refers to the name of the village, Essertes is derived from the old French "essarts" which means "cleared land".
