Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 6, 1535.

During most of its history, the market borough of Trofaiach in Upper Styria has lived from and with iron: The burgesses were engaged mining, smelting, working and trading iron. So, it is quite fitting that King Ferdinand I (brother of Emperor Charles V) granted the borough an arms with an "iron man".

To this day, Trofaiach remains a centre of metal industries.
