MELHUS

Province : Trøndelag (until 2018 Sør-Trøndelag)
Additions: 1964 Flå, Horg, Hølonda

Coat of arms (crest) of Melhus
Official blazon
Norwegian

På rød bunn en gull knestående bueskytter.

English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on November 8, 1979.

The arms show an archer, symbolising Einar Tambarskjelve from Melhus, who was a famous chief and archer in the 11th century. He is mentioned as an archer for King Olav Tryggvason in the battle of Svolder in 999.

The symbol was first intended to be used by the Sør-Trøndelag county, but the county did not adopt it.
