The arms were granted in 1954 and registered in 1974.
The three water mill wheels symbolise the former watermills that provided the energy for the local industry. At the same time they symbolise the present industry in the city. The upper part shows two bull horns, which are derived from the arms of the founder of the village industries in the early 16th century, Gabriel Oxenstierna. The oxen horns are a canting element in his arms (from Ochsenstierna, the old German name of the family, Ochs=oxen in German).
