Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on August 25, 2008.
The angel reflects the local monument for victims of the 1905-1907 revolution; also it symbolizes the connection between heaven and earth. The forked spearhead (“senek” in Karaim language) is the national badge (“tamga” in Karaim language) of Karaim people: the Karaim were settled there in early 15th century by Grand Duke Vytautas for serving as guards of Upytė castle (their descendants now live in Panevėžys).
