Origin/meaning
The arms were adopted in 1969.
The arms show the Paraná rivver near the city, with two ships; a modern trader, symbol for the important harbour and trading in the city, and a historical vessel, which symbolises the battle of Rosario in the early 1810s, when Argentina was fighting for independence. The arm rising from the battlements symbolises that on February 27, 1812, General Manuel Belgrano raised the newly created Argentine flag on the shores of the Paraná, for the first time. Because of this, Rosario is known as the "Cradle of the Argentine Flag". The sheat, corn and anchor represent agriculturue and shipping.
