The old arms are based on a 16<sup>th</sup> century seal and are in turn based on the arms of the counts of the Pfalz. The latter arms are quartered of the lion of the Pfalz and the arms of the Wittelsbach family, who ruled the Pfalz. The village became a possession of the Counts of the Pfalz in 1351. The grapes are a symbol for the widespread and important viticulture. In the 17<sup>th</sup> century the grapes were sometimes misinterpreted as pine cones. | |||
