VIMMERBY
Province (Landskap): Småland
County (Län): Kalmar län
Additions : 1971 Locknevi (partly, 1952 Blackstad), Sevede (1952 Frödinge, Pelarne, Rumskulla, Vimmerby rural municipality), Södra Vi (1952 Djursdala), Tuna
Official blazon
I fält av silver en grön ek med en i dess topp sittande röd ekorre camt Carl IX:s monogram, desslikes rött, fördelat på båda sidor om ekens stam.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted in 1945.
The arms are based on the old seal of the town. The town was founded by King Karl IX in the early 16th century, which is reflected in the letters (Carolus IX). The meaning of the oak tree and squirrel is not known, but also not uncommon (see f.e. Auma in Germany).
The arms as shown by Liljeblad, 1878 |
