DAVID RAYMOND CHOBY

Born : January 17, 1947
Deceased : June 3, 2017

Bishop of Nashville, 2006-2017

Arms of David Raymond Choby

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The three blue six pointed stars are emblematic of the Magen David--three representing the three stars of the Tennessee flag, the Magen David because the bishop's first name is David, and blue for the Blesed Virgin Mary, to whom the bishop has a particular devotion.

The main charge is the Irish harp of Brian Boru on green. The bishop's mother's family were of Irish descent. The indented or dancetty partition is meant to represent the moutains of Slovakia, the homeland of the bishop's paternal ancestors.
