Arms (crest) of Kanash

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted on July 14, 2017.

The coat of arms reflects the main milestones in history, the unique socio-economic characteristics of the city.

In 1893, with the completion of the construction of the Moscow-Kazan railroad passing through the cities of Ryazan, Saransk, Alatyr, the Shikhrana railway station and the village near it began to officially exist. In 1919 Shikhrany became a junction station, in 1920 the Shikhrany station and the village were renamed Kanash. In 1925 Kanash received city status.

The image in the coat of arms of a gold gear ring and a silver winged railway wheel personifies the city of Kanash as one of the most developed industrial centers in Chuvashia in terms of industrial power and a large railway junction station. The city is also crossed by the most important motorways.

Three eight-pointed stars at the head of the shield emphasize the geographical location of the city on the territory of Chuvashia.
