IAȘI
District/county (județ) : Iași
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on April 16, 2014.
The silver fortress refers to the "Roman tower", adopted in the previous arms since 1851.
The horse accompanied by the crown represents the medieval seal emblem of Iași, attested in 1609. The two crosses symbolize the existing churches inside the Royal Court, respectively St. George and the Holy Trinity.
The bull's head of Moldova, located above the coat of arms, protruding from the mural crown, emphasizes the status of capital of Moldova that Iasi held for 3 centuries.
The mural crown with 7 crenellated towers means that the locality has the rank of municipality-county residence.
