SANKT GILGEN
State : Salzburg
District : Salzburg-Umgebung
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on August 27, 1932
The arms show a lake under a sun. The lake is the Abersee and refers to the fact that the village and the lake are major tourist areas. The sun is taken from the arms of Berchtold von Sonnenburg, head of the local orphanage from 1769-1801 and brother-in-law of Mozart.
Literature : Zaisberger, F. and Pfeiffer, N. : Salzburger Gemeindewappen. Winter Verlag, Salzburg, 1985
