Origin/meaning

The arms are a combination of the arms of the Condé family (see also Dombes, Enghien-les-Bains) and Bretagne (ermine field). The small shield shows the arms of the Lords of Chateaubriant. Until 1250 their arms showed golden pins on a red field, but after the battle of Mansourah King Louis IX approved the use of the royal fleur-de-lys instead.
