Origin/meaning
The arms are basically the same as the old Soviet arms (see below), with a different spelling of the name and change of the Moldovan SSR flag colours to the current flag colours.

The first arms were granted on August 21, 1930 by the Romanian authorities.
In August 1985 the arms below were adopted by the town and approved by the Moldovan SSR.
