MAUERKIRCHEN
State : Oberösterreich
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
It is not known when the arms were originally granted. The oldest known seal dates from a charter from October 6, 1476 and shows a canting church (Kirch=church). Later images and seals also show only the church. In the middle of the 16th century the current arms appeared.
The right half shows the arms of the Dukes of Bayern-Pfalz, as the town was a possession of Bavaria until the end of the 18th century.
Literature : Baumert, H.E. : Oberösterreichische Gemeindewappen, Linz, 1996.
