Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on August 11, 1931.
Founded by Celtic people named "Tauri" in the 4st century b.C.;it was denominated JULIA AUGUSTA TAURINORUM by the Romans ("Tauris'Augusta"). In 11th century it was first spelled TAURINUM. From 1814 until 1862 was capital of Kingdom of Sardinia, which at that time included vast regions of northern Italy, becoming, in 1864 the Italian Kingdom (the capital was then transferred to Florence, and finally to Rome).
