English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms show a beaver in a river, Bièvre is the old French for beaver (the modern French is "castor"), Bièvres is the name of the river that runs though the village of Bièvres, it no longer has beavers but it must have had them in the past. The coat of arms also shows strawberries: they used to grow strawberries in the valley of the Bievres, and the village festival is actually a Strawberry festival, complete with a strawberry queen.
