Arms (crest) of the Northwestern Diocese, ELCT

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The wavy base symbolises Lake Victoria, along whose shore the diocese is located. The cross is from the arms of the Anglican Diocese of Uganda.

It symbolises the fact that the first Christians in the area was baptisted by British Missionaries and confirmed by the Bishop of Uganda. The arms were designed by Bengt Olof Kälde. The diocese was formerly known as the Diocese of Bukoba.
