Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on October 6, 1958.

The arms show the historical importance of two abbeys, the Preremonstant abbey in Schäftlarn and the Benedictine abbey of Tegernsee. The first owned most of the area until the early 12th century and the first mentioning of Unterhaching dates from 806 and is a document related to the abbey. The crosier is taken as a symbol for Schäftlarn. From the 12th century the area belonged to Tegernsee. The lower part of the arms is taken from the arms of the abbey of Tegernsee.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
