89TH AIRLIFT WING, US AIR FORCE

History: Established as 89 Troop Carrier Wing, Medium, on 10 May 1949. Activated in the Reserve on 27 June 1949. Ordered to active service on 1 May 1951. Inactivated on 10 May 1951. Redesignated as 89 Fighter-Bomber Wing on 26 May 1952. Activated in the Reserve on 14 June 1952. Inactivated on 16 November 1957. Redesignated as 89 Military Airlift Wing, Special Mission, and activated on 27 December 1965. Organized on 8 January 1966. Redesignated as: 89 Military Airlift Group on 30 September 1977; 89 Military Airlift Wing on 15 December 1980; 89 Airlift Wing on 12 July 1991.
