NO 550 SQUADRON, ROYAL AIR FORCE

History: Formed at Grimsby in November 1943.

Official blazon

In front of flames of the fire proper a sword erect the point uppwards argent pomelled and hilted gules.
Motto: Per ignem vincimus = Through fire we conquer.

Origin/meaning

The Sword symbolises the Strength of the Unit in getting through Fire. The badge was granted in July 1945.
