Deceased : November 16, 2007
Bishop of Nashville, 1975-1992
Official blazon
Origin/meaning

The Chi Rho in the chief represents Christ and the Alpha & Omega (1st & last letters of Greek alphabet) symbolizes Christ as the beginning & the end.

The shell is the symbol of St. James the Apostle, the patron saint of the bishop.
