BANYOLES
Region : Catalonia
Province : Girona
Official blazon
Escut caironat truncat: 1r. d'argent, una lletra B majúscula de sinople; 2n. d'or, 4 pals de gules. Per timbre, una corona mural de ciutat.
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on June 16 1983.
The town of Banyoles, laying near a picturesque lake, is known too by the so-called "Banyoles jaw", an ancient vestige of a pre-neanderthalian man, 90.000 years old. The arms show traditionally a letter B (the initial of the town's name) and the four gules pales on gold of the royal arms of Catalonia-Aragon.
