Escudo de prata, moinho de maré de negro, aberto, iluminado e realçado de ouro, firmado numa faixeta ondada de azul; em chefe, cruz da Ordem de Santiago, de vermelho. Coroa mural de prata de três torres. Listel branco com a legenda a negro em maiúsculas : “ FREGUESIA DO BARREIRO “.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on August 10, 1998.
The arms show the cross of the Order of Santiago, as the town was founded by King João II, who was also head of the Order.
The base sshows a water mill in the Tagus river, as several such water mills existed and played a role in the local development.
