377TH COMBAT SUPPORT HOSPITAL, US ARMY
Official blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a gold sunburst with pointed rays, bearing at center a maroon Greek cross issuing two scarlet arrowheads diagonally from behind its upper arms on either side of a blue demi-fleur-de-lis; in base a semicircle of five white stars, all above a semicircular maroon scroll folded back on each side and inscribed “HEALING WITH COMPASSION” in gold letters.
Origin/meaning
The Greek cross is a symbol of aid and assistance; the demi-fleur-de-lis with the five stars represents the unit’s battle honors in Europe, World War II at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe. The arrowheads allude to the unit’s combat support and evacuation capabilities; the color scarlet represents the organization’s Meritorious Unit Commendation. The sunburst with rays symbolizes the healing rays of the sun and good health. Maroon and white are colors used for the Medical Department.
The Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 28 December 1977. Literature: Image and Information from The Institute of Heraldry, US Army.
