Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted in 1987.
The arms are based on the old arms, with the addition of a wavy bar from the arms of Alfta, and replacing the crown in chief.
The old arms could not be re-registered, as the crowned swan is also the arms of the German region of Stormarn.
The previous arms were officially granted on December 17, 1956.
The swan was taken from the seal of Ovanåker parish, known since 1775. The crown was taken from the symbol for the Voxna iron works.
Literature: Nevéus and de Waern, 1992
