Ii Kuntavaakuna / Kommunvapen

Official blazon

  • (1966) Kulta-sinikat­ koinen kilpi; yläkentässä sininen orsivaaka, ala­ kentässä reunoihin ulottuva kultaverkko.
  • (2007) Hopeakentässä aaltokoroinen vasen pieli ja hylje; molemmat sinisiä.

Origin/meaning

These are the arms of Kuivaniemi, continued by Ii in 2007.

The previous arms were officially granted on February 9, 1966.

The division of the shield is taken from the noble Natt och Dag family, who owned the area in the 17th century. The scales indicate that Ii has been a centre of trade for a very long time. The base shows a fishing net, symbolising the importance of salmon fishing.
