HMS DEFIANCE, ROYAL NAVY

History: The Royal Navy Tropedo School founded in 1885 at Devonport, Devon. Recommissioned as a Fleet Mainenance Base in 1981 and in 1994 becom part of the Devonport Naval Base.

Origin/meaning

The Hand shown is from a Plaster Cast, probebly that of (later) Admiral of the Fleet Sir Henry Jackson, who made and first unsed initial wireless transmitter (1910-1912) before Marconi.. The Latin motto translates as "With knowledge and confidence full, to defy". The Badge was approved in 1953.
