Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 29, 1959.

The stars and the colours of the arms are derived from the arms of the Wachtmeister family, who originated from the town. Hans Wachtmeiser became Admiral and Count in the late 17th century. The cross is taken from the old seal of the Edestad church. The ship is taken from the arms of Admiral Count Johan Puke, who is buried in his estate in Göholm in the municipality.
