KOUMAC
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms show on the right half a miner's lamp. Koumac still is a mining town, with nickel and chomite mines in the municipality. The upper left half shows in red a golden typical wood decoration, used by the Kanak people to decorate their houses (called fleche faitière in French).
The base shows the image of Rat island, a small island that can be seen from the village of Koumac.
The two supporters are deer, a common animal in the area.
