The arms were newly designed after the merger of 1978 as neither Neusorg or Riglasreuth used arms before.

The stag is taken from the coat of arms of the von Hirschberg family, who owned the local Ebnath-Schwarzenreuth estate from 1448 to 1797 and thus played a large role in the local history.

The chief refers to the Riglasreuth, whiche used to have a castle.

The hoes (Reuthauen) are a canting symbol (-reuth) for clearing of the forests. Both villages were established in the 13t/14th century as clearings. The two hoes also refer to the two villages.

The black and gold are the colours of the Pfalz, as the area historically belonged to the Pfalz before it was passed on to the Barons of Hirschberg.
