The small shield shows the previous, unofficial, arms of the village, base don the seal from 1581. The symbol is not very clear, it proabaly is a so-called village symbol, but its meaning is not known. It has been previously described as a Ringflasche (ring-bottle) and currently as a Halseisen (neck-iron). This is a piece of iron used to chain prisoners around the neck and to an object.
It has also been stated that the symbol originally consisted of two rings, symbolising th elocal castle and the manor, bot which were owned by the Lords of Eschollbrücken.
In the new arms the village symbol was combined with thee diamonds, taken from the arms of the Lords von Waldbrunn, who owne dthe village in the 15th and 16th century.
