The device and motto are derived from the former naval shore establishment HMCS Cornwallis. The cough itself was adopted from teh family armorial bearings of Colonel the Honourable Edward Cornwallis, first Governor of Nova Scotia, 1749-1752. It was depicted standing on a green mount to signify that HMCS Cornwallis was a shore establishment. The green mound has been retained to symbolize the green hills and slopes of the Annapolis Valley in which Canadian Forces Base Cornwallis is located. The motto is considered appropriate for a base which is primarily tasked with the training of Canadian Forces recruits, reserves and cadet corps members. | |||
