Official blazon
Origin/meaning
Hartlepool uses a seal dating from 1200, showing a hart at bay in a pool, with a hound on his back. This is obviously an illustration of the town's name.
The town council has never registered this design officially with the College of Arms, but over the years it has been displayed on a shield.
